Hyde – 4

St. Thomas More – 2

In its second match in as many days, the Hyde Wolfpack defeated a determined St. Thomas More squad 4-2 at home.  Despite a scoreless initial fifteen minutes of play, the Wolfpack played its best soccer of the season controlling the tempo, switching the point of attack, and showing composure under pressure.   Ironically enough, once play began to breakdown, Hyde found the back of the net.  After a nice give-and-go with midfielder Jake Hedrick ’14, flank midfielder Jared Larsen ’13 tip-toed along the endline and slotted the ball past the Chancellors netminder Steven Greenslade for a 1-0 advantage.  Ten minutes later, central midfielder Will Davis took on two Chancellor defenders and threaded a perfectly weighted through ball into the stride of striker Sean Kokdil who stopped on a dime, turned, and fired a low lefty shot into the far corner of the net to up the Wolfpack lead to 2-0.  Despite surrendering a sloppy goal with four minutes remaining, Hyde capitalized off a long Graham Davidson ’13 throw-in, when the ball fell to the feet of Hedrick, who slammed home his first goal of the season in the waning seconds of the first frame for a 3-1 lead.

Despite several scoring opportunities in the first twenty minutes of the second half, Hyde struggled to finish.  The Wolfpack’s fourth goal came off a whipped in corner kick from sophomore striker Conor Cavanagh who found the trusted left foot of Will Davis, who ripped home a goal that deflected off midfielder Feda Dirisic ‘14 for a 4-1 lead.  With Hyde preparing to play its third match in three days, Coach Folan elected to rest some of the starters in the final fifteen minutes of the match.  During that time span, the trusted defense of Davidson, Felipe Azevedo ’14, Brian O’Dea ’13, and Toby Obayashi ’16 helped thwart Chancellors attacks, while keeper Parker Roma ’14 continues to improve on a daily basis.

With the Wolfpack, 5-3, back in winning form, it looks to finish off a busy week when it takes on SENE foe Rocky Hill away on Friday, October 5th at 4pm.
