Hyde – 5
Falmouth – 1
Ending its three game losing skid, the Hyde Wolfpack defeated conference opponent Falmouth Academy in convincing fashion 5-1 on a water-logged fall day. From the opening whistle, the Wolfpack immediately took control of the game tempo, forcing Falmouth to take a more defensive posture. Hyde finally broke the scoreless deadlock twenty minutes into the match when a nice combination play sprung senior striker Sean Kokdil out on the right flank. Sean took on a defender, got to the endline, and laid a perfect pass for newcomer Conor Cavanagh ’15 who hammered in his first goal in a Wolfpack uniform. Cavanagh struck again minutes later off a nifty cross from left midfielder Jared Larsen ’13 to notch his second goal on the day. Two minutes later the Wolfpack earned a corner kick, where Larsen whipped in a ball to the near post that found the back of the net for a three goal lead. Larsen finished off the first half scoring in the waning minutes of when he took on a defender at the top of the penalty area, got the ball on his trusted left foot, and beat the Falmouth keeper to the near post for a 4-0 advantage. Defenders Graham Davidson ’13, Toby Obayashi ‘16, Felipe Azevedo ’14, and Brian O’Dea ’13 frustrated the Falmouth strikers throughout the day.
The second half saw more of the same. The Wolfpack were tenacious out of the gates in the second frame as senior midfielder Will Davis took on three defenders and calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net for the Wolfpack’s final goal on the day. Hyde cleared its bench and strong second half performances were turned in by strikers Johnny Schaer ’14, Yiren Jiang ’13, and Joey Fan ’13, who kept constant pressure on Falmouth’s backline.
At 4-3, the Wolfpack has little time to rest as it takes on the St. Thomas More Chancellors at home on Thursday, October 4th at 4pm.
