Marianapolis – 2
Hyde – 1
A Marianapolis goal in the final ninety seconds of the match proved to be the difference maker as the Hyde Wolf Pack fell to the Knights 2-1 in an away SENE game. The Wolf Pack, in the midst of a three game skid, battled back and forth with Marianapolis for the first forty minutes. The first half ended with the score knotted at 0 with both teams creating some scoring opportunities. Hyde goalkeeper Parker Roma ’14 was stellar on the day, consistently coming off his line to help his fellow defenders. Central defenders Graham Davidson ’13 and Jake Hedrick ’14 helped keep the Hyde defense composed throughout the first frame.
The game opened up in the second half with Marianapolis earning a controversial penalty kick with eighteen minutes remaining in the game. Marianapolis senior Nick Borowski calmly stepped up to the penalty stripe and just beat Roma to take a 1-0 advantage. The Wolfpack found the equalizer with six minutes remaining when midfielder Felipe Azevedo ’14 chipped a perfect ball to fellow midfielder Will Davis ’13, who settled the bouncing ball and ripped a lefty shot just inside the right post. With just under two minutes remaining in the game, Marianapolis earned a corner kick. The Knights whipped in their corner kick and, after ricocheting off several players, the ball ultimately trickled into the net, thus proving to be the difference maker.
Disappointed and disheartened after another loss, the Wolfpack, 3-3, hopes to return to its winning ways when it travels to Cape Cod to take on Falmouth Academy this Wednesday, October 3rd at 4pm.
