Bath: GVS vs. Gould Academy

Hyde – 2

Gould Academy – 1

It was a picture perfect fall day as the Hyde team drove north on route 26 towards Bethel and Gould Academy.  The foliage was in near peak form and a stop at Snow Falls made it feel more like a Sunday afternoon pleasure cruise than a game day.  As far as the team was concerned, there was no mistaking the mission; to gather the first win of the season.  The Phoenix did just that.  The team came out hard and dominated the first half of the game.  Strikers Olivia Griffing ’14 and Shannon Ward ’14 were all over the goal mouth with several near misses.  The first goal came just past the 6:00 minute mark on a beautifully struck ball outside the penalty box by senior midfielder Kara Fischer ’13.  It dropped just behind the keeper and the entire team collectively exhaled as their scoreless streak had been broken.  After more attempts and solid team play, Kara Fischer ’13 scored her second at the 25:34 minute mark, a near duplicate of her previous goal.  Gould was kept on their heels as the first half closed out 2-0.

The second half was an entirely different game.  Gould came back with force and peppered the net, forcing several key saves from keeper Katie Comeaux ’13.  The Phoenix had difficulty composing their play and Gould was able to score 19:00 minutes in to the period.  Acting as a wake-up call, the team rallied to the final whistle turning back Gould’s attack.  Additional stand out efforts were turned in by midfielders Cailin Darling ’14 and Allie Helfrich ’15, who had just returned from injury.  Currently the team is setting their sights on their re-match with Hebron on Wednesday.
