The Wolf pack traveled to Saxton’s River, Vermont on Saturday to take on Evergreen League opponent Vermont Academy.
Post Graduate running back Jay Watkins ’13 stamped his authority on the game from the get-go. He rushed for the first four touchdowns of the game while racking up roughly 273 rushing yards on the day. Senior Peter Markham ’13 and Post Graduate Daniel “Don-Don” Palmer ’13 added scores of their own in the second half. Senior kicker Ben Krassner ’13 was three for five on extra-point attempts on the day and barely missed a 37 yard field goal attempt.
For the second straight game, Hyde’s starting defense did not allow a touchdown. Outstanding defensive performances of the day go to junior Kyle O’Keefe ’14 and senior Tyquan Ekejiuba ’13; the cornerbacks pulled in one and two interceptions, respectively. Senior inside linebacker Joe Yanovitch ’13 pulled in an interception of his own along with his array of tackles. Joe also earned the “Hammer” award for registering the biggest hit of the day.
As always, senior captain, quarterback, and free safety Conor McLaughlin ’13 played a great game and led with his work ethic and toughness. Wide receiver Alex Holland ’13, in his first year of football, continued to improve and had two great down field blocks which sprung Watkins for two of his scores.
Once again, the offensive line of Jon White ’14, Omri West ’16, Joe Yanovitch ’13, Michael Dore ’13, and Greg Munetz ’13 did yeomen’s work and got the job done for another big rushing week.
The Wolf pack looks to improve on their 2-0 record on Friday when they travel to Portsmouth, RI to take on the Ravens of the Portsmouth Abbey School at 4pm.
