Hyde Boys Cross Country @ Canterbury Invitational
Score 228- 10th place of 17 teams
The cross country team made the long trek out to New Milford CT. to compete in the Canterbury Invitational. They competed against 17 teams from Division III and IV in the NEPSTA league as well as teams from New Jersey and New York. Each team was only permitted to run their 7 best runners creating a race of 116 of the best runners in those divisions. Our guys held their own finishing 10th as a team, only 2 points behind Cheshire. Of those teams who finished ahead of them, only two were from D IV, a good sign as we prep for our division’s championship race at the end of the year. We were missing our usual fourth runner which called for others on the team to step up with a great race to fill in the gap. Brendan Murray led our pack finishing the hilly course in 19:14 and placing 19th overall, this would indicate a likely top 10 finish among runners from our division. Matt Marshall followed just behind finishing in 19:45 and placing 39th. Our most improved this race was Dylan Marx who dropped his time down to 22:20, over 30 seconds faster than his previous race at PCD which is an exceptionally fast course. This is the tightest our pack has been this season with an average team time of 20:13 and only 1:33 second separating our first and fifth runners. The guys are looking forward to the Marianapolis invitational this Wednesday.
