The Hyde School football team boarded the bus on a rainy Saturday morning to travel to Tilton School for their first game of the year. As the team arrived and the sun came out, the Phoenix took to flight and captured an impressive 28 – 16 victory over the Rams. Senior fullback Steven Dwight led a dominant running attack with 109 yards on 13 carries and 2 td’s. The Hyde rushing attack totaled 250 yards rushing on 36 carries. Seniors Troy Jones and Terry Norris each added rushing td’s as well.
The Hyde defense also came to play today holding Tilton under 100 yards rushing and only gave up 87 yards through the air. The Phoenix forced two fumbles and 1 recovery by Sophomore captain Austin Makris. Zack Messina made a huge 4th down tackle late in the 4th quarter to extinguish the Rams’ comeback hopes.
Overall, it was a huge season opening victory for a hungry Hyde School football team looking to make their mark. Next Saturday, the team will head out on the road again to take on league rival Kents Hill.
