Wheeler – 3
Hyde – 1
Outworked and outhustled in nearly every facet of the match, the Hyde Wolfpack dropped a very disappointing game to defending SENE Champions Wheeler 3-1. Just ninety seconds into the game, a Wheeler through ball shredded our defense and junior goalkeeper Parker Roma made a gorgeous breakaway save. Roma had to come up big on several occasions during the first half to help bail out a befuddled Wolfpack backline to keep the game scoreless. Hyde’s normally potent offensive attack had difficulty breaking down the disciplined Wheeler defense and managed only a few shots on goal. Despite a poor first half, the game was knotted at 0 heading into halftime.
Wheeler came out of halftime determined to find the back of the net. Just three minutes into the second frame, Wheeler capitalized off yet another Wolfpack defensive lapse to take a one goal advantage. Wheeler increased its lead seven minutes later off a set piece and added a third goal with twenty minutes remaining. With just two minutes left in the match, senior midfielder Jared Larsen made a beautiful run down the left flank and was taken down inside the penalty box. Senior striker Sean Kokdil calmly stepped up to the penalty stripe and hammered home Hyde’s only goal of the day to finish up the match’s score at 3-1. Freshman right back Toby Obayashi was stellar on the day, while Joey Burns ’14 came off the bench to infuse some much needed tenacity in the Wolfpack midfield.
Despite a 3-0 start to the season, the Wolfpack will have to rebound from this rather lackluster performance if it hopes to fulfill its potential this year. Hyde, standing at 3-1, looks to rebound this upcoming Wednesday, September 26th, when it hosts Putnam Science Academy at 4pm.
