Strong Showing for Girls Varsity Soccer vs. Lincoln

On Wednesday, the women’s varsity soccer team played Lincoln Academy. The ladies started the game on the defense as Lincoln’s offensive took to the field strong, scoring in the first few minutes of play.  Jenna Kowalski ’13 showed Lincoln that the Hyde ladies were ready to play as she made a great save when our defense was beat. Samantha Frisoli ’14 played defense for the first time on Wednesday and proved to be a key asset as she chased down break away balls and tactfully directed the opponent away from the goal.  Janicha Diaz ’14, used her speed and a perfect opportunity to beat Lincoln’s defense and placed the ball in the back of the net scoring the first goal of the season for the Hyde ladies. The half ended with Lincoln scoring 4 goals and the Wolfpack with 1.

The ladies were roaring to go as the second half began. Alina Donnelly ’13 took charge as she received a ball from Diaz ’14 and placed it in the net making the score 4-2. With spirits high, the ladies pulled together as a true team and continued to dominate the field. Hannah Peter ’13 controlled the defensive as sweeper. Donelly’14 had great throws which gave the Wolfpack a great advantage when working the line. Marlena Reeves ’14 responded to Donelly’s’14 powerful throws and used her speed to beat the Lincoln defense and continued to pressure. Samri Krogmann ’14 was a highlight of the game as she helped out on defense, worked the ball up the field on offense and ultimately scored the final goal for the Wolfpack making the score 4-3. Lincoln responded to the goal placing three in the net in the second half out scoring Hyde by 4.

The Lady Wolfpack had great transitions throughout the game, showed amazing teamwork and dedication while on the field. Women’s varsity soccer will compete against wheeler on Monday.
