Hyde XC @ PCD invitational
Williams – 23/PCD- 42/Hyde- 65/Rocky Hill-129/St. Andrews-134/St. Thomas More-170 (low score wins)
The cross country team traveled to Providence Country Day to participate in their invitational. Many of our runners were looking forward to running this flat course as an opportunity to set a personal best and most of them did. The team was led by Brendan Murray who finished 4th in a time of 18:24, his fastest this season. Marcos Mercado tested the waters, racing for the first time this season, having been out with a knee injury. He finished 10th in 19:28 an excellent first run, hopefully we see more of that in the near future. Our two most improved for the day were Andrew Moran who dropped his time down to 21:18, his fastest this season by at least two minutes, and Dylan Marx who dropped over a minute to finish in 22:52. As a team we set a goal to beat PCD on their home course. Unfortunately with all of the great progress most of our runners made, with a couple of disappointing finishes as well, they beat us by 23 points. While they fell short of their goal by a small margin, they did solidly beat Rocky Hill, St. Andrews, and St. Thomas More. Clearly Williams School is the team to chase this year but with many new runners, and a solid team attitude, there is plenty of progress to be made over the course of the season. Saturday we travel to the Canterbury School to see how we stack up against nearly all of the schools in NEPSTA Div III and Div IV conferences. Wish them luck!
