Hyde – 5
Master’s – 0
Despite missing several key players, the Hyde Wolfpack won an emphatic non-conference match against the Master’s School 5-0. Senior striker Sean Kokdil continued his scoring ways just four minutes into the game as he received a perfectly slotted through ball from fellow senior Jared Larsen and poked it past the Master’s goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage. Although the next twenty minutes saw some sloppy play from both sides, this was due in large part to multiple Wolfpack players being put in some unusual positions. With fifteen minutes remaining in the first half, outside midfielder Jared Larsen passed the ball to central midfielder Brian O’Dea ‘13, who changed the point of attack, crossed the ball to Kokdil, who then volleyed it home for his second marker on the day. Senior midfielder Will Daviscompleted the first half scoring with just three minutes remaining as he chipped the Master’s net minder from just inside the penalty box for a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Wolfpack, determined to play a complete eighty minutes, came out in the second frame and played a much more composed, disciplined brand of soccer. Ten minutes into the half, Kokdil was fouled just outside the area, setting up a free kick opportunity. Midfielder Will Davis struck a rocket into the top left roof of the net from twenty-five yards to up the Wolfpack lead to four. Hyde’s scoring ended with a beautiful corner kick from Jared Larsen, who found the head of Davis, to help complete Will’s first hat-trick on the season for a 5-0 lead.
With victory now assured, Hyde continued to play some beautiful soccer. Strong performances were turned in by the striker tandem ofYiren Jiang ’13 and Sam Valentine ’13, who kept consistent pressure on the Master’s defense. Midfielders Anton Bockmeyer ’14, Tom Nixon ’14, Joe Biederman ’15, and Kyle Scuoteguezza ’15 helped control the tempo, and the sturdy Wolfpack defense limited any scoring opportunities. Additionally, junior goalkeeper Parker Roma ’14 finished with four saves on the day to complete his first clean sheet of the season.
At 3-0, the Wolfpack is off to its best start in recent memory. Hyde will look for a little revenge when it plays defending SENE champs, Wheeler, this Saturday, September 22nd, at 2pm at Wheeler Farms.
Wish the boys luck!
