Boys Varsity Soccer Wins vs. MacDuffie, 4-2

September 15, 2012

Hyde – 4

MacDuffie – 2

Paced by a first half hat-trick by senior striker Sean Kokdil, the Hyde Wolfpack held off a tenacious MacDuffie squad 4-2 in an important non-conference matchup.  Kokdil was eager to capitalize off his strong performance against Rocky Hill earlier in the week and his tenacity paid off shortly after the opening whistle.  Just five minutes into the match, Graham Davidson’s ’13 trademark thirty-five yard whipped-in throw-in found Kokdil on the penalty mark, where he calmly volleyed the ball past the outstretched arms of MacDuffie net minder Lucas Caseli.  After getting on the scoreboard so early in the game, the Wolfpack grew lazy and arrogant and its level of play rapidly diminished.  MacDuffie scored two goals in quick succession to take a 2-1 advantage, the first time this season the Wolfpack found itself trailing.  Hyde’s leadership emerged and the team rallied to climb out of the hole it dug itself.

With fifteen minutes remaining in the first half, left midfielder Jared Larsen ’13 slotted a perfectly weighted through ball into the stride of Kokdil who beat Caseli to the far post to knot the score at 2.  Ten minutes later,Kokdil finished off his first half hat-trick by roasting two defenders and placing the ball just under the diving arms of Caseli to take a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.

Although Hyde could only must another goal in the second frame, the final forty minutes were dominated by the Wolfpack.  Beautiful off-ball movement, overlapping runs, and plenty of communication were hallmarks of the second half.  Central defenders Graham Davidson ’13 and Jake Hedrick ’14 continued to thwart any MacDuffie counterattacks, while flank defenders Toby Obayashi ’16 and Felipe Azevedo ’14 combined with the midfield to possess the ball.  Wolfpack goalkeeper Parker Roma ’14 had another stellar day in net stopping four MacDuffie shots.

At 2-0, the Wolfpack continues its non-conference schedule this upcoming Wednesday, September 19th at 4pm, as it hosts the Masters School.
