Team: Men’s Future Varsity Lacrosse
Date: May 16, 2012
Score: Hyde: 1 Hebron Academy: 13
Highlights: All good things must come to an end. The FV Phoenix Defense withstood a barrage of offensive Lumberjack attacks in the first quarter holding Hebron to a 1 goal lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of play. Junior Marley Dutton lead the squad with six ground balls and several defensive strips and clears. Senior Harry Hu also had a stellar day with a long pole with 3 GB’s and fives defensive strips and clears. Sagel Prosser stepped into a starting role and showed great patience. Sophomore Joey Romo also stepped into the LSM role and showed his future promise with the long pole.
The second period saw the Phoenix aggressive play get them into penalty situations leading to a flurry of Lumberjack goals leading to a 9 -0 lead at halftime.
Finally in the third period, the attack offense of Max – Max and Peter (Max Kaplan – Max Zerrudo-Turgeon and Peter Lin) took control and played lacrosse. Freshman David Wu (4 GB’s and 3 steals) and Juniors John McManus (3 GB’s with 2 steals) and Terry Luo (4 GB’s 3 steals a face off) took possession on the defense and then controlled the ball in the offensive zone. Junior Hung Zhao had his best game with 4 GB’s 2 face off wins and 4 defensive steals. Charles Chen ’15 also had a great game with 3 GB’s and 3 great defensive plays leading to an offensive threat.
However, the offense could not best a very good Lumberjack goalie. As the game came to a close the Phoenix never quit and continued to be aggressive and go after the ball until the end.
Finally, sophomore goalie Kellin Sweeney stopped over 70% of the shots on net from potent lumberjack offensive shooters.
The season is over, but the Future Phoenix have a bright future.
