Rocky Hill 8
Hyde squared off today against SENE conference foe the Rocky Hill School with hopes of remaining unbeaten in league play. The Rocky Hill squad was determined from the start and maintained possession of the ball in the opening minutes of the game and managed to go ahead 1-0. For the majority of the first quarter Rocky Hill was in control, however a costly turnover put the ball with attackman Jared Larsen ’12 who fired a shot from 17 yards out to even the contest at 1-1. In the second quarter, the Hyde defense made some costly mistakes and Rocky Hill went on a 6 goal run and was in clear control. However, Kevin McMorrow ’12 and Alex Holland ’13 each had a goal to put Rocky Hill ahead at the break 7-3.
In the second half, Hyde staged a huge comeback with 2 goals from McMorrow ’12 and a goal from Joe Yanovitch ‘13 to cut the lead to 8-6. Second half goalie, Blake Smaldone ‘12 set the tone with some huge saves and even more impressive outlet passes to set the up numerous fast break opportunities. With 20 seconds left in the third quarter McMorrow ’12 managed to cut the lead to 8-7 on a nice inside move. After the goal,
Danny Gill ’12 won the face-off and came down and fed McMorrow ’12 again who took an outside shot that found the back of the net with .3 seconds left on the clock to even the score at 8-8 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Hyde came out on fire with a quick goal fromYanovitch ’13 to go up 9-8 and then McMorrow ’12 put his 7th goal of the day away to go up 10-8. The final 5 minutes of the game, Larsen ’13 was instrumental in holding the ball and found an open goal to seal the victory for Hyde 12-8. It was a great comeback and the team fought hard for this win! Other standouts were defensemen Ben Lieber ’12 with some great groundball play as well as midfielder Connor McLaughlin ’13.
