Falmouth Academy 3
Hyde traveled to Cape Cod today to play Falmouth Academy in an SENE conference battle. Hyde started the game out a bit sluggish and Falmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 in the opening minutes. Hyde bounced back with some key ground ball play from middies Danny Gill ’12 and Sam Valentine ’13 to push the ball down the field to set up Kevin McMorrow ’12 to even the score at 1-1. Starting goalie Blake Smaldone ‘12 continued to impress with some spectacular saves in addition to his clearing game with the help of defensemen Ben Lieber ’12, Evan Dienstag ’12, and Matt Forelli ’13, Hyde managed to shut down the Falmouth offense. However, Falmouth played a tight zone defense and frustrated the Hyde offense until finally Connor McLaughlin ’13, Gill ’12 and McMorrow ’12 each put a goal in to go up at the half 4-2.
In the second half, costly penalties by Hyde put the Falmouth “power-play” on the field for a majority of the second half. Hyde was fortunate with thanks to smart man-down defense to only give up one goal in the for the rest of the game. Kevin McMorrow ’12, was on fire in the second half and after a beautiful pass from attackman Alex Holland ’13 put his third goal of the day away but he was not done yet and managed to put another three goals away to put Hyde ahead for good 8-3. McMorrow ‘12 finished with six goals on the day and along with the defense helped the Wolfpack get back to their winning ways. Next up Hyde-Bath!!!
