Bath: Men’s Future Varsity Lacrosse 4/17

Team:   Men’s Future Varsity Lacrosse

Date:   April 17, 2012

Score:  Hyde:  0           Cape Elizabeth High School: 17

Highlights:

Cape Elizabeth demonstrated why it continues to be a power house in the Maine Lacrosse league.  As we walked onto the turf field, I noticed two boys both under four feet tall (shorter than the lacrosse sticks they held) practicing face offs on the side of the field.  We will see them in 4 – 5 years.  Cape put on an impressive passing and shooting show in the first half keeping sophomore keeper Kellin Sweeney (21 saves on 38 shots on the day) very busy.  Towards the end of the second quarter the Phoenix defense lead again by Andrew Martz ’14 (6 GB’s, 2 clears and 3 steals) stiffened as the found the slide package begin to work.  Junior John McManus and Sophomore Charles Chen each found their stride on offense with a couple of contested ground balls and hustle plays on both defense and offense.

Freshman David Wu set the tone for the other Phoenix to follow as he scooped up 6 ground balls, had several hustle and defensive plays and had one of only two shots on the Cape net.   For his heart and hustle David Wu earned the “Dirty Ball” award
