Bath: WVL vs. Edward Little

Hyde                     4

Edward Little      11

On Saturday, March 31st the Hyde Girls’ Lacrosse team kicked off their season with a friendly non-league contest against Edward Little High School. Though the Hyde team lost, this home game highlighted a lot of growth that the Phoenix have made in their fitness, stick skills and communication during the first two weeks of practice. Senior Laughlynn Bragg and Junior Amy Ginsberg both scored a goal in the first half; this was Ginsberg’s first career goal. Hyde was down at halftime 4-2. The team picked up 23 ground balls throughout the contest; 50/50 balls have been a focal point. Sophomore Carolyn Moore led this effort with 6 ground balls. Bragg had 4, and freshman Susanna McManus, sophomore Shannon Ward and junior Erika Corley picked up 3 apiece. McManus also scored her first career goal in the second half, Bragg scoring the second to bring the final score to 4-11. Junior Caroline Hammond has been a key contributor so far this season, and kicked off her goalie career with 9 saves – 5 in the first half, and 4 in the second. Hammond also picked up the Athlete of the Week recognition. Athletic Director Tyler Plourde wrote the following about her efforts so far this season: “Following her male counterpart in the net, Caroline Hammond helps the goalies of Hyde go back to back to start this season off with athlete of the week honors. This week, Caroline not only displayed her ability to learn and be coached at a new position, but also displayed fierce courage in net against season-opening opponents, Edward Little. Refusing to quit, Caroline stood tall and anchored a young lady Phoenix squad; helping to keep her team in the game and the Eddies out of the net.”
