Captain Jon Lee`12 lead by example and beat his opponent handedly in straight sets, earning his first bagel(6-0) of the season. His play was consistent and strong throughout his match. Ignacio Sanchez`13 started his match by losing the first set. He played more aggressively during the second set, and through poise and determination, came from behind to win the next two sets for the victory. Brian Liu`12 played one of the longest matches of the day. He got down early and lost the first set, but battled his way back in the second to win the set in a tie-breaker. He and his opponent played a ten point tie-breaker for the third set due to time constraints and the fact that Hyde’s First Doubles managed to clinch the win as he was coming off at the end of his second set. At first doubles; Zach Leighninger`13 and Ethan Blatt`13 won their first set in a 7-5 tie-breaker. However, they lost focus during the second set, losing it 1-6. In a show of tenacity and mental toughness, they buckled down and won the next set 6-3; with many games going to deuce. They had the added pressure of knowing that their win would cement a team victory. It was an impressive show of character in action. Nicky Li `13 and James Howard `13 made their Hyde Tennis debut at second doubles. Unfortunately, they struggled to find their stride and fell to their opponents after a short, but well fought battle.
