The Hyde Varsity lacrosse team opened their 2012 season on the road against SENE conference foe the Rocky Hill School on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. Hyde was impressive from the start with senior attackman Kevin McMorrow ’12 putting away a goal in the opening minute of the game which was soon followed by a beautiful give-and-go from attackman Jared Larsen ’13 to Danny Gill ’12. Hyde capitalized on some of Rocky Hill’s mistakes and was soon ahead 5-0 after an Alex Holland ’13 goal. On the defensive side of the ball, senior goalie Blake Smaldone ’12 was impressive in his first start and made some key saves in the first half to shut down the Rocky Hill offense. In the second half, Hyde continued to dominate both sides of the field led by junior attackman Joe Yanovitch’s ’13 three goals in the second half and McMorrow ’12 who finished with six goals on the day cruised to victory 18-9 to claim their first win of the season. In addition to the offense having a strong day, defensively Ethan Thoms 12’ andEvan Dienstag 12’ helped shutdown the Rocky Hill firepower. Up next for the Wolf Pack is New England lacrosse powerhouse the Portsmouth Abbey School Wednesday @ Hyde 3:30 p.m.
