After only a couple of weeks of practice, the varsity men’s lacrosse team finally took to the field against Mt. Ararat in their first competition. On a cold March afternoon, the Phoenix defense, led by Captains Alec Randall (’12) and Zach Tolman (’12), anchored the team and held the Eagles to two goals on the game. Offensively, Hyde found the back of the net six times with midfielders Chester Hill (’12) and Wilson MacMillan (’14) scoring twice. Also contributing to the scoring effort were midfielders Jamal Frazer-Borden (’13) and Zach Heatley (’14) with a goal apiece.
The game ball for hustle goes to long stick midfielder Andrew Kraai (’14) who scooped up a team leading four groundballs, played tenacious defense, and cleared the ball effectively several times. Although the team is young and mainly inexperienced, they played with composure and this game demonstrated the strides they have made since preseason started on March 17th.
