In February, fourteen students from Hyde Leadership Public Charter School of Bronx, NY committed their prized vacation time to participating together in the Youth Leadership Intensive, a retreat for personal discovery and development. This intensive experience is offered collaboratively by Hoffman Institute and The Hyde Foundation. Juniors at Hyde-Bronx were offered the opportunity to travel to Maine during school break to be part of this pilot project. The group was accompanied by Marion Holley, Hyde-Bath graduate and High School Dean at Hyde-Bronx, and Joanne Goubourn, Hyde-Bath graduate and Executive Director of The Hyde Foundation. Holley and Goubourn were joined by two Hoffman Institute facilitators to lead the group through the experience.
Goubourn worked with Hoffman teacher Linda Hartka-Reiss over the course of several years to secure funding and to design a retreat specifically for Hyde urban students derived from a Hoffman program called Youth At Risk.
The Hyde Foundation has worked with Hoffman Institute since 2008 to make the impactful Hoffman Process available to faculty at all of the Hyde Schools. This was the first time the process has been made available to Hyde students.
