Phoenix Produce Best Complete Game Yet!

The Phoenix, missing two players managed their most complete game of the season defeating the Sacopee Valley Hawks 64-32.  Their backcourt of Tyquan Ekejiuba ’13 and Talin Rowe ’14 led with a combined 20 points and 15 defensive deflections. The Phoenix were willing to share the ball as evidenced by the number of assists and ball movement with several possessions where all players touched the ball to find the open man. Ben Burlock ’13, Andrew Herron ’13 and Evander Lenardson ’14 contributed some valuable play.  Lenardson ’14 contributed 6 points in his first start of the season. Warsame Mohamed ‘14 was the high scorer with 14 points.

Hyde Defeats Waynflete at the Buzzer!

Hyde (Class D) faced the undefeated  (Class C) Waynflete Flyers on Friday, January 13th in Portland.  Hyde, out of the gates early led after the first quarter by the strong inside play of Chris Moulton ’12 and Jonah Alexander ’12 who combined for 21 points and 24 rebounds in the game. Alexander ’12 was forced to sit the entire 2nd period due to foul trouble and Waynflete rallied in the second quarter with a 14-9 as Hyde seemed to settle for taking outside shots.  Hyde trailed throughout most of the third quarter but finished on a 6-0 run as a result of a key three-point play converted by Chris Moulton ’12. Wilson MacMillan ‘14 provided energy and hustle play off the bench as the Phoenix fought back in the 4th quarter.  Moulton 12 converted on his second three-point play and Warsame Mohamed  ’14 hit a deep pull-up three pointer with a  1:30 left in the game to tie the score.  Hyde had the ball with 1:06 in the game and managed to run the clock down the final seconds. Tyquan Ekejiuba ’13 hit a pull-up jump shot from the foul line as time expired to bring home victory for the Phoenix!

Phoenix Victorious in Bingham!

Hyde travelled to Bingham, Maine on Saturday January 14.  Hyde 7-0 faced the undefeated (8-0) Valley Cavaliers. The Phoenix stormed out to an impressive lead 10-4 on behalf of some strong offensive play from senior captain Chris Moulton ’12 who had 6 points in the 1st quarter.  The Cavaliers battled back to trail by two points at the end of the period.  Hyde extended the score 32-24 to take a half-time lead with key baskets from Tyquan Ekejiuba ’13 and Jonah Alexander ’12.  The Phoenix controlled the tempo of the game, but Valley was able to exploit the Phoenix interior defense with the help of some good passing. Junior Ryan Cassidy’13 made a great defensive play midway in the 4th quarter taking an offensive charge near the basket. Jonah Alexander ’12 had a great game from both ends of the floor and led Hyde with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Ekejiuba ’13 added 18 points and 7 assists.
