Hyde’s Indoor Track program competed on Wednesday in a five-way meet against Phillips-Andover, Governors Academy, Tabor Academy, and Wilbraham-Monson. It was a little intimidating walking into the Andover indoor track facility to see 95+ track athletes from Andover, another 40 from Wilbraham, 25 from Governors and 16+ from Tabor. We had fourteen competing athletes total (ten men and four women).
Amazingly, the four-member Hyde women’s team took 3rd place overall in the women’s meet with a score of 24 points and our men also placed 3rd overall with a score of 25 points.
On the women’s side, Dexie Cercos `12 placed in all of her events… 2nd in the 300yd dash (44.64), 3rd in the 50yd hurdles (9.13), 3rd in the long jump (14’ 1”… a personal best), and 4th in the 4×400 relay. Erika Corley `13 placed second in the 2 mile (16:04.76) and WangXi Wang `15 placed 4th in the 1000yd run (3:41.39). Erika, WangXi and Mady Preece `13 rounded out the 4th place 4×400 relay team (5:36.35).
On the men’s side, we also have some strong performances on our way to a 3rd place team placing. The highlight of the day was watching sophomore Griffin Palola-Harriman win the 1000yd run (2:51.12). Isaac Pfosi `12 grabbed a second place finish in the high jump (5’ 4”) and a 5th place finish in the 600yd dash (1:28.21). Ben Webber `12 placed third in the 50yd dash (6.12), Cody Mitchell `13 placed 5th in the 2 mile (11:43.02), and Richard Liu `14 took 5th place in the 1000yd run (3:12.82). Our men’s 4×400 relay took 3rd place overall with a time of 4:17.26 (Ben Webber, Griffin Palola-Harriman, Cody Mitchell, and Isaac Pfosi).
It was quite a day for Hyde track and field. Needless to say, I went to bed that night with a big smile on my face… so did fourteen other Hyde students.
