As an introduction, this year’s Hyde-Bath Indoor Track team includes 16 athletes… four women and twelve men. Some are track veterans and others are new to the sport. Along with our traditional meets in January/February against Exeter and Andover (only five prep schools in New England have indoor track programs), this year’s program will also participate in the Western Maine Athletic Conference (public school league). This gives us highly competitive meets every Friday beginning in January and an opportunity for individuals and the team to qualify for league and state championships. As well, our sister school, Hyde-Woodstock, has an indoor track program this winter.
Hyde’s Indoor Track program began its season on Sunday by running in the 5K Jungle bells Run for Arthritis in Freeport, ME. Overall, there were 609 competitors in this year’s run. I was delighted with our performances.
- Alexi Philippoussis `15 won his age group with a time of 20:07 (Alexi has never run competitively before and he placed 29th overall in the race of 609 competitors… not bad for a 14 year old!!!)
- Dexie Cercos `12 placed third in her age group with a time of 24:01 and a place finish of 100.
- Isaac Preston `13 placed third in his age group with a time of 18:59 and a place finish of 11th overall in the race.
- Other strong finishers included Griffin Paola-Harriman `12 (20th place/19:30) and Cody Mitchell `13 (24th place/19:47).
I am looking forward to a strong season from this group of athletes.
