Williams School – 2
Hyde School – 1
In its most lethargic, disappointing performance of the season, the Hyde Wolf Pack lost to SENE opponent Williams School 2-1. Looking to close out its finest regular season in school history, the pervasive attitude on the team this afternoon was one of cockiness and arrogance. The egos of the mighty Wolf Pack were deflated just 35 seconds into the match as the Williams squad took advantage of a lackadaisical Hyde midfield and slotted a shot past Wolf Pack net minder Griffin Davidson for an early 1-0 lead. The Wolf Pack continued to struggle throughout the first frame as they lost 50/50 battles across the pitch and struggled to mount any type of offensive attack. Williams upped their lead to a two goal advantage after Davidson punched a cross, the ball subsequently landed in the penalty area, and a Williams player pounced on it and slammed it past Davidson.
Although the second half proved to be slightly better, the Wolf Pack continued to display a lack of discipline and a very low level of play. The Wolf Pack finally got on the board with eight minutes left when junior Jonathan Donesky rocketed home a loose ball in the penalty area to narrow the gap to 2-1. Unfortunately, the Wolf Pack could not find the equalizer and lost in a very disappointing manner.
While this proved to be a very difficult way to finish the regular season, the Wolf Pack finishes 3rd in the SENE and takes on 6th seeded St. Thomas More at home on Monday at 2pm. At 10-5-1, the Wolf Pack is in the midst of its most successful season in school history. It is hopeful that Hyde’s consistency can improve so it can demonstrate its talent and abilities far into the post season.
