Big Win for Wolfpack Boys Varsity Soccer

November 2, 2011

Hyde School: 2
Marianapolis: 0

The Wolfpack of Hyde School hosted rival Marianapolis for the second time this season, achieving its second win against the cross town foe this season; also marking the schools’ second win in school history. Coach Kevin Folan stressed the importance of the game, as Hyde has serious playoff aspirations in sight and the regular season ending with an away game Friday, November 04, 2011 at Williams. The Wolfpack started the game flying, with one and two touch passing shredding the Marianapolis midfield and sending lovely balls over the top of the defense. Nine minutes into the match, senior forward Alvaro Gonzalez played a masterful left footed diagonal ball into the penalty box and a streaking Will Davis beat the goalkeeper, flicking a header into the back of the net and getting the Wolfpack on the score sheet. The duo of Davis and Gonzalez leads the team in goals combining over twenty times on the season. Marianapolis took control for the remainder of the half, making some defensive adjustments that flustered the potent Hyde School attack.

Welcoming the half time break, the boy regrouped to put a solid second half of play together. The staunch defensive line, led by goalkeeper Griffin Davidson and defenders Andreu Cullere, Graham Davidson, Nasir Ibrahim and Jonathon Donesky allowed for little creativity by the Marianapolis attack. With ten minutes left in the game, a long throw in by Graham Davidson fell to the feet of Gonzalez at the penalty spot. Gonzalez, a cool finisher with a Spanish swagger and flair for theatrics calmly placed the ball into the back of the net and an ensuing celebration by the entire Hyde School campus erupted. Coach Kevin Folan takes his team on the road to Williams School Friday for the final match of the regular season. 2011 marks a historic year for the boys varsity soccer team as they push to finish 8-2 in league play and make a charge at the SENE post season. A victory on Friday will ensure the team a second place league finish and first round bye of the playoffs, both firsts for the up and coming program in Woodstock, Connecticut.
