Hyde – 4

CVA – 0

Cold and wet conditions were met with perseverance and determination as the Women’s Varsity soccer team hosted CVA for their second match of the 2011 season.  The Phoenix started strong when Carolyn Moore ’14 scored the first goal within the first five minutes of the game on a scramble in front of the net.  The second half scoring continued with a breakaway goal by Carolyn Moore ’14 and a well struck shot from Dexie Cercos ’12.  After a 3-0 half, CVA found some momentum and slowed the scoring.  After several attempts, Hyde scored a final goal late in the second half when a pass from Dexie Cercos ’12 was finished by mid-fielder Katie Comeaux ’13Cat Vidal ’12 played an outstanding game as striker and despite no goals, had several shots on net.  Zaji Lieberman ’12 led the defense and played a solid, aggressive game.

Hyde – 0

Kents Hill – 0

Parents and families lined the field as the Lady Phoenix faced off against Kents Hill.  The team was hoping for a family weekend win to even their loss against the Huskies earlier in the season.  Both teams came out strong and it was clear that neither were going to give up easy.  Hyde keeper Laughlynn Bragg ’12 played an outstanding game, making several key saves and commanding the penalty box.  Sweeper Mady Preece ’13 led the defense and played an aggressive counter to mid-field.  Hyde was struggling to find momentum and scrambled while Kents Hill outshot them to half.  After a scoreless first period, both teams returned with determination.  Despite hard work from Hyde’s midfielders Katie Comeaux ’13, Dexie Cercos ’12 and Jenna Brodeur ’12 they were unable to control the ball and develop scoring attempts.  The team’s one opportunity came when Carolyn Moore ’14 struck a volley inside the box narrowly missing the net as the Kents Hill keeper made an outstanding save.  Elsa Veron ’12 played a solid game on defense, shutting down a key offensive player.  Neither team netted a goal and the game ending a draw.
