Bath: Hyde Phoenix Cross Country Week in Review

HYDE VICTORIOUS AT FAMILY WEEKEND HOME MEET, PARENTS SMILE WITH PRIDE

The Phoenix met victory this Saturday over Seacoast and Kents Hill, this time in our very own front lawn with a squadron of parents and families cheering them on.  Leading the way were Zach Betancourt ’12 (1st overall, his first win of the season) and Cody Mitchell ‘13 (3rd), followed by the duo of Isaac Preston ’13 and Griffin Harriman ’14 (4th and 5th), and the tight pack of Jamie McCracken ’12, Benny Webber ’12, and Emmett Leahy ’13 (8th-10th).  As Captain Benny Webber shared during his electrifying presentation to the school community on Saturday night, nearly all of our runners saw improvement over their last race at Hyde at the end of September.  Some of the stand-outs on the JV front include Thomas Pennington ’13 with an improvement of 3:19, Joey Romo ‘15 with an improvement of 2:49, and Michael Novas ’12 with an improvement of 2:00.  Newcomer Martin Chen ’14 dropped an astounding ten minutes from his previous best due to perseverance through our demanding afternoon practices.  Ringing the victory bell was even sweeter with parents in attendance! With just nine days to go until the MAISAD championship in Augusta, we are continuing our focus on rigor as we up the mileage yet again.  This coming Wednesday the Phoenix will be attending our final regular season meet, at Gould Academy in Bethel, ME.
