At Wheeler School
Wheeler – 6
Hyde – 0
The Hyde girls junior varsity soccer team came out Saturday afternoon excited and enthusiastic for their first game against Wheeler School. It was a battle from the beginning with the Wheeler school team controlling the ball and keeping the play contained in the Hyde School half of the field. In goal Jenna Kowalski ’13 had dynamic saves throughout the first half of the game and the defense showed fantastic effort led by Naiwen Zhang ’13, Jing Yang ’13, LiYuan Zhang ’14, and Yichao Hu ’12. Starting the second half down by four, the team had new focus and determination. The offense worked to create more opportunities and Rina Pesner ’14 was able to take the team’s first shot on goal. Despite a great effort, Hyde was not able to make up the deficit.
The game brought to light areas in which they could improve and highlighted the potential of each individual player. Understanding positions on the field, movement as a team, and creating space on the field were among the team’s concerns. Great efforts were made during the game by Yoomi Ji ’13, Samantha Frisoli ’15, and Yue Shen ’13 in their hustle throughout the game, communication on the field, and team support.
The team is looking forward to their next game this Friday, September 30th against Rectory school and hoping to bring the same enthusiasm and drive to the competition.
