Strong Showing for Girls Varsity Soccer vs SENE Rival MPS

October 3, 2011, At Marianapolis Preparatory School

Hyde School – 0
Marianapolis – 3

Though not totally evidenced on the scoreboard, the Hyde School Girls Varsity Soccer Team demonstrated great improvement, taking on SENE rival Marianapolis Preparatory School today in Thompson, CT.  Controlling the play, Hyde was taken off guard just five minutes into the game when a missed back pass in the defensive line led to Marianapolis taking an early lead.  The WolfPack held heads high, however, and maintained possession for the greater part of the first half.  The defensive unit of Jahmilia St. Claire ’14, Yi Yang ’12, Hannah Peters ’12, led by Becca Katz ’12 worked on their chemistry as well, showing support and confidence in one another as the half progressed.

The second half, though allowing more goals from Marianapolis than the first, saw great play from the Hyde team.  Tactically sound and holding shape very well, Marcy Altobello ’13 and Aine Zaniewski ’13 set the tone for the WolfPack with their incredible work ethic and smart play.  The Hyde midfield got some sparks from Molly Giordano ’13 and Marlena Reeves ’14 as well, who stretched the field and hustled with their two-way playing.  Unfortunately, Marianapolis caught another lucky break when a missed clear was confused for a back pass to the Hyde goalie, leaving the ball on the goal line for the Marianapolis offender to simply tap in with about 20 minutes to play.  Though Hyde stayed tough, Marianapolis caught another missed clear while the WolfPack was going full throttle to generate offensive success.  Even falling behind by three with equivalent play throughout the game, Altobello, Zaniewski, Katz, Yi, and the rest of the WolfPack showed tremendous heart in their continued pursuit of team excellence until the final whistle of the game; a true reflection of the scoreboard not necessarily matching the team’s level of play.

Leaving the field with pride in the level of play and clear improvement both in tactics and team unity, Hyde looks forward to taking on Falmouth Academy this Wednesday, October 5, in Falmouth, MA.
