Hyde Boys XC @ Worcester Academy
Hyde Cross Country traveled to the New Balance fields in Worcester to race Worcester Academy on Saturday. Worcester is a strong DII team who host on a very rugged trail which in wet conditions included water crossings, steep mud hills, and slick bridges. Nick Dresch ’12 took second place against strong competition. Brendan Murray ’13 went out fast with the leaders and hung there for the bulk of the race closing the gap between him and Dresch. While he fell back a bit at the end he showed he was capable of running up front and putting a little pressure on Nick. The standout performances really occurred a little further back in the pack. Kevin McMorrow ’12 did exactly what he needed to and closed up the gap between our 3rd and fourth runner by passing Zack Cerame and running in our 3rd spot for the first time. That begins to close up a big hole we have had all season and will help us to be a much more competitive team. Marcos Mercado ’13 also pulled up to tighten up the pack trailing just behind Zack but eliminating the almost two minute gap that existed there. Cosmo Hu ’12, James Howard ’14, and Matt Wysocki ’13 all ran very tough races and brought our 6th and 7th runners much closer to the front of the pack. Andrew Moran ’15 showed major improvement in his all-around effort as well it is tough to say but even on the very difficult course I think he bested his previous best by quite a bit. Unfortunately we didn’t get the times but we do know that the final score was Hyde 40 – Worcester 19. Worcester proved to be the better team but the guy’s should be very proud of giving them a solid race this year.
With no meet on Wednesday the guys have a very tough week of training in front of them as we gear up for the second half of the season. This Saturday the boy’s travel to the MacDuffie School. Wish them Luck!
