Bath: Men’s Varsity Soccer Week in Review

Hyde Men’s Varsity Soccer traveled to Bethel Maine to compete against Gould Academy on Saturday October 1st.  The score was Hyde School 3, Gould 0.  Hyde’s Mike Burke ‘13 scored two minutes into the game; Jamal Frazer-Borden ‘13 with the assist.  Mike Burke ’13 scored a lone goal in the 12th minute.  At eighteen minutes, a Gould defender tackled Yani Stancioff ‘13 near the six yard box.  A scuffle ensued.  The Gould player was the aggressor and was ejected with a Red Card as was Mike Burke ’13, from Hyde, who came to his teammate’s aid and pushed the Gould player away.  A penalty kick was awarded to Hyde and was converted by Wilson MacMillan’14. The score at the half was 3-0.  The team played a more defensive second half and Keeper Alec Randall ’12 made some great saves to preserve the shutout.

Standouts for the match; Wilson MacMillan ’14 for his work ethic and solid play in the mid-field.  In addition, he was called upon to stand in at Sweeper during the second half.  Ignacio Sanchez ‘13 played unselfishly in the midfield.  Captain Scott Georgaklis ’12 set the tone early and continued throughout the match with his unwavering pursuit of the shutout at Stopper.   The next match will be Wednesday at Kents Hill School where we will relay upon our continued strong defensive play.
