Bath: Hyde Phoenix Cross Country Week in Review

PHOENIX XC CONTINUES UNSTOPPABLE STRING OF VICTORIES

The Phoenix have had a busy week of success, both during practice and at meets.  On Wednesday the Phoenix  trekked to Thompson, Connecticut for the Marianapolis Prep Invitational and finished an impressive 2nd out of 14 schools and a total of 162 runners (including Hyde Woodstock, who also made a strong showing).  Leading the way were the usual suspects –  Zach Betancourt (2nd place overall), Cody Mitchell (8th), Isaac Preston (26th), Ben Webber (28th), Griffin Harriman (33rd), Emmett Leahy (36th), and Jamie McCracken (44th) – and all our runners got the chance to bring some gold back to campus.  For complete results check out coolrunning.com or click here.

The Phoenix, surging strongly after a winless 2010 season, met victory at our second meet of the week, Saturday at Hebron Academy.  Hebron, also set to host New England’s on November 14th, laid out a fearsome course through the woods that proved no match for the Phoenix.  Some newer runners with impressive times yesterday include Cassius Grenot and Brian Liu, who cracked into our top seven for the first time.  For complete results, click here.

Capping off a week of excellence in leadership, an elite squad of Phoenix runners volunteered to hit the bus at 5:30 this morning and head to the Maine Marathon in Portland to field four relay teams at Northern New England’s premier running event.  Joining us were special guest runners Ms. Randall (Art Faculty), Ms. George (Spanish Faculty), two of the fastest girls from Kents Hill School, and Lenny Webber (proud Phoenix parent), in addition to Coach Rowe and myself.  Despite a soggy start, Hyde XC stood out amongst the 3500+ runners in attendance and will proudly be presenting an honorary medal to our #1 fan – Head of School Don MacMillan – during our community meeting tomorrow morning.  Keep your eyes on mainemarathon.com for results as they are posted.

After a busy week of competition, we are pleased to return to the relative calm of our work-out routines, with the end goal remaining the MAISAD Championship, now just one month away.  XC will also be travelling to Gould Academy in Bethel, ME this Saturday October 8th.  The race starts at 1:00 pm – hope to see you there!

Go Phoenix!!
