On Saturday, the Wolfpack varsity football team traveled to Brookline, MA to take on Evergreen League divisional opponent Dexter School. Hyde started off the game slowly, possessing the ball just once in the opening quarter due to a costly turnover and recovered on-side kick by Dexter. Finding themselves down early, the team had to decide which way the game was going to go for the rest of the afternoon. They responded well and put two scores on the board in the second quarter. The first was a shifty 30 yard run by junior quarterback Conor McLaughlin ’13; the second score came when McLaughlin found junior Jahvaney Beckford ’13 streaming down the sideline for a 40 yard touchdown pass. Hyde went in at the half down 28-16.
The second half was full of excitement as Hyde continued to battle back into the game. Beckford would find the endzone twice more and with just six minutes left with the ball and momentum, Hyde was down 35-31. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, they would not score again and Dexter was able to score once more to seal the victory.
Other notable performances were senior Mike Zinn ’12 for his offensive contributions and PG Safi Hasseeb ’12 for his all-around gutsy play. The offensive line played well led by senior Evan Dienstag ’12 and junior Greg Munetz ’13.
Hyde looks forward to its home opener on Saturday as they take on Vermont Academy at 3:30pm.
