Hyde-Woodstock Begins the School Year with Great Success

Hyde-Woodstock opened its doors to 170 boarding students comprised of a diverse population of students hailing from states across the country and countries around the world. Internationally, Hyde welcomed students from China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Spain, Nigeria, and Rwanda, marking great success for the international program.

Assistant Head of School and English teacher John Rigney was particularly struck by the high level of enthusiasm from students: “The excitement from our senior class, in particular, demonstrates the renewed vigor and energy for the new school year. There is huge leadership potential here from our veteran students. They´ve set a serious tone for the new academic year and helped the underclassmen start out on the right foot.¨

Students took part in a sports preseason for several days and began classes on September 6. At Hyde School, all students participate in the sports program for three seasons during the school year as well as a broad range of college preparatory and AP classes, performing and visual arts, and community service.

Hyde School also welcomed the addition of new faculty members to its community. With seven new faculty members, Hyde looks forward to a promising school year for its diverse student population.

Looking back on the first few weeks of classes, Rachel Folan, dean of academic studies, termed the academic start a great success.

“Students are genuinely excited about their course work and their impending intellectual growth for the school year,” shared Folan. “Teachers kicked off classes with a bang and have continued to bring great lessons and teaching to the classroom and the sports fields.”

The Hyde School approach to education has been developed since 1966 at the Hyde boarding campuses in Bath, Maine, and Woodstock, Connecticut, and through public school initiatives in New Haven, Connecticut, and Bronx and Brooklyn, New York. The organization, based in Bath, also includes national parenting workshops and wilderness experiences.
