Hyde – 0

Hebron – 2

Hyde opened its MAISAD play on Saturday against Hebron academy in front of a supportive alumni weekend crowd.  The game was a fast paced battle on the gym field where the tight quarters make for a more physical game.  Both teams came out strong and though Hebron outshot the Phoenix, there were scoring opportunities at either end.  Despite great defensive efforts from marking backs Tandis Rafii ’12 and Meng Zhang ’12, the Hebron team capitalized on a cross and scored with sixteen minutes left to play in the half.  The Hyde team worked hard to find the equalizer but couldn’t string together the necessary momentum.  After the half the Phoenix returned with a fire and worked hard to score.  Midfielders Cat Vidal ’12 and Dexie Cercos ’12 attempted to ignite the team’s fire and deliver scoring balls to the forwards.  Unfortunately, a controversial call came late in the half and drew a penalty kick for Hebron.  The shot passed the keeper making it 2-0 with only seven minutes left to play.  The Hyde team continued to battle and was inspired when post-grad Jenna Brodeur ’12 netted a shot that was called back due to offsides.  The game was well played and the Hyde team showed strong spirit and work ethic.  Their next match is against Kent’s Hill on Wednesday.
