Hyde Boys Cross Country @ Providence Country Day Invitational
The Hyde-Woodstock boys cross country team traveled to Providence Country Day School to compete against PCD, Williams, Rocky Hill, Marianapolis, and St. Thomas More. While Nick Dresch ’12, dominated the race winning first in 17:30 (that is a 5:38/mi pace), the team as a whole did not stack up as well. There were stellar performances from Zack Cerame ’12, who took 7th in 18:58. Brendan Murray ‘13 finished in 13th with a time of 19:29 but our pack drifted apart after that, leaving holes for PCD and Williams to pick up enough points to edge us out. Towards the back of our group, James Howard who didn’t complete his last race, turned things around and finished in 22:00. Richard Fagan ‘14 put forth some serious effort and came through in 22:28. But my favorite performance was that of brand new student Tyler Jenkins who was just added to the roster today. Initially we didn’t plan on him competing since our roster had already been submitted but we were given the opportunity to put him in the race, and he came in with a respectable 29:32. Thanks Tyler for the stellar effort and welcome to Hyde School. All around it was a very good day. Nearly all of our runners hit personal bests, some by more than a minute on this quick grass course. But unfortunately in the end we didn’t quite have what we needed to bring in the win. The biggest victory I think we could have won today was the very positive feedback we received from the Assistant Head of School at PCD who said he was impressed with the effort and the character our kids showed on and off the course. We very much look forward to competing against both of these teams in coming meets as the competition and the class of their organizations has helped us to reach towards our best. Thank you PCD for a great meet. Thank you Hyde Boys XC for another excellent performance!
This Saturday we travel to the Canterbury Invitational where we will see some of the best competition in divisions 1-4 in NEPSTA. Wish them luck!
