MacDuffie – 1
Hyde – 0
After yesterday’s emphatic 4-0 victory over the Hyde-Bath Phoenix, the Wolfpack came out slow and sluggish and lost to a MacDuffie squad 1-0. From the opening whistle, it appeared that Hyde did not bring the same tenacity and passion it saw just 24 hours prior against its nemesis from Bath, ME. After a number of undisciplined fouls just outside the penalty area, MacDuffie stepped up to strike a free kick just 20 yards away from net minder Griffin Davidson ’14. The MacDuffie striker bent a very well struck ball into the top right corner of the net past the outstretched arms of Davidson to take a 1-0 advantage. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, that was the only scoring that took place on the afternoon. Despite numerous scoring chances throughout the day, Hyde could not produce the equalizer. Talented striker Alvaro Gonzalez ’12 kept the MacDuffie defense on its heels throughout the afternoon as he rang the post on three separate occasions. Outside senior midfielder Dan Weintraub provided steady pressure attacking from the flank, while central defenders Andreu Cullere ’12 and Graham Davidson ’13 helped keep a clean sheet for the remainder of the game.
After three games, the talented Hyde Wolfpack stands at a disappointing 1-2. It looks to get to .500 this Wednesday as it takes on WNEPSSA rival, the Master’s School, at 4pm in Simsbury.
