Men’s XC Week in Review
The Phoenix traveled to Gorham on Sunday for a 9/11 Memorial 5K run. The weather was ideal and the crowd was abuzz as we got ready to honor our fallen heroes.
Although the race was optional, eight of our crew woke up early for the event and all achieved stellar times. Zach Betancourt led the way with a 17:29, just short of his time from last year’s MAISAD Championships. He was followed closely by Cody Mitchell, Isaac Preston, and Captain Benny Webber. We also witnessed some excellent times from newcomers Brian Liu, Richard Liu, and Michael Novas.
Coming off of this race we pushed through a touch week of practices, including some serious miles on Wednesday. The guys ran between 7 and 9 miles – a personal record for many of our runners – and yesterday we rocked three miles of unrelenting speedwork on the track.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Phoenix are hitting the road for the second time this season, this time for the UMA Benefit 5K in Augusta. We’re increasing our participation and we expect some crushing times from our veterans as well as solid starts from our newbies in preparation of our first official meet, at home on the 24th.
PHOE Whaaa??? PHOENIX!!! Go Phoenix!
