Jon Lee won the MAISAD Singles Title yesterday at the MAISAD Singles Tournament held at Hebron Academy. Jon was seeded number one in the league and consequently had a bye in the first round. He faced AJ Bloomindale from Hebron in the quarter finals and beat him 8-1 to advance to the semi-finals.
Peter Higgins and Sage Harris were both playing on adjacent courts while Jon was playing his first match. Peter had just advanced by beating Benji Page from Gould Academy 8-0. Peter next faced Jock Cooperrider from Hebron. Peter started by breaking his opponents serve in the third gave to go up 2-1. He went on to win 8-4 and advanced to the semi-finals. Sage lost 3-8 to the second singles player from Kents Hill in the first round.
Next, teammates Peter Higgins and Jon Lee squared off in the Semi-finals. Peter and Jon had a lot of long rallies during their match, but ultimately Jon won the match 6-3, 6-3, to move on to the finals against Dylan Rich, the first singles player from Kents Hill School. Jon started the match strong with some impressive put away shots and consistently accurate first serves. After 3 games he was ahead 2-1. His opponent broke Jon’s serve in the next game to tie it at 2 games all. Jon countered by breaking him back to go ahead again. He carried his momentum through the remaining games winning them all to take the first set 6-2. Jon finished the match by winning the second set 6-1. It was a fitting end to an impressive season.
