Hyde-Bronx is preparing to move into a new high school building! The new facility will be the only college preparatory high school in Hunts Point, Bronx, and the first school constructed in the area in more than three decades.
Civic Builders, the renowned nonprofit developer of buildings for high-performing charter schools, selected Hyde-Bronx as its latest partner after a rigorous competitive process. The company is currently putting final touches on the construction of the Hyde-Bronx High School’s permanent home, a 31,500 square foot facility located on 830 Hunts Point Avenue, right around the corner from the school’s current location. Hyde-Bronx’s new home will include nine core classrooms, a state-of-the-art library, two science labs, an art room, a roof-top play area, and small instructional spaces. It will also house offices, a warming kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room that will serve as a cafeteria, gym and lecture hall. They will also have a high-tech audio-visual system that will be a part of the lecture hall and science lab.
The building will accommodate Hyde Leadership Charter School’s high school student population and open its doors in time for the September 2011 academic year. It will serve approximately 225 students in grades nine through eleven.
