On Friday the Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker to Hyde Woodstock. The 6-5 final score reflected the hard fought battle between the teams, as Woodstock was able to fend off a final barrage in the closing seconds of the game. The Phoenix took time to shake off the long bus ride and gave up an early lead despite the strong goal tending of Junior Alec Randall. The 4-0 half-time deficit didn’t discourage the Bath squad as they found their stride in the second half. Defense, led by Senior Taylor Lewis and Junior Mason Murphy, regrouped and collared the Wolf Pack offense. On the other side of the stripe, the attack began finding the net as Senior Nat Abernathy and Junior Tyler Raff each put away two goals and Senior Alex Armstead also put a point on the board. Although Senior Harry Smith led the team in groundballs, the stats cannot sum up the heart and determination he showed as he shrugged off a shoulder injury to carry the team in an impressive fourth quarter stand. The hustle of the midfield, the persistence of the attack, and the tenacity of the defense all embodied the spirit of Hyde Athletics.
