After beginning the season with two lopsided losses, the Hyde School tennis team has bounced back with a great home victory during family weekend and a close, hard-fought loss against sister school Hyde Bath. As the team has adjusted to early morning practices and has worked toward establishing a consistent doubles lineup, the Wolfpack has found a rhythm heading into the heart of the schedule. Leading the charge have been singles players Zack Sude ’11, Lara Cornelius ’11, Sarah DeNunzio ’11, and Richard Schuller ’12. Singles highlights include Richard earning an impressive 8-0 victory over his St. Andrew’s opponent, and Zack Sude battling Bath’s number one singles player in an exciting 6-8 loss. Several doubles teams have also turned in thrilling highlights in the first weeks of the season. Alex Huston ’12 and Hope Eldridge ’11 showed heart and hustle in a slim loss to a very talented duo from Rocky Hill, Christopher Wells ’11 and Sam Zhao ’12 toughed out a victory against their Bath counterparts, while Mason Spector ’12 and Chad Bryant ’13 earned a rare tiebreaker victory against St. Andrew’s. Rounding out the list of doubles contributors are Kun-Il Kim ’12, Dave Smith ’14, Adam Ben-Hanania ’11, and Nick Sackman ’11. With a grueling upcoming schedule in which the team will have five away matches in ten days, the Wolfpack will need to rely on teamwork, consistent effort, and positive momentum to achieve a successful season.
