Hyde Boys Varsity Lacrosse
St. Lukes 9
On Saturday, the Wolf Pack traveled south to battle the St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Ct. The last time these two teams met was 2009 in the first round of the New England small schools lacrosse tournament with St. Luke’s winning handily. St. Luke’s came out in the opening quarter winning the opening face-off and scoring two minutes into the contest. For the majority of the first quarter St. Luke’s possessed the ball but the Hyde defense led by goalie Blake Smaldone ’12 turned away shot after shot and the quarter ended with St. Luke’s ahead 2-0. The second quarter was much of the same, with Hyde having difficulty handling the ball on the offensive end and spending much of the quarter again playing team defense. Hyde gave up some costly goals at the end of the quarter to put the half-time score at 6-0 in favor of St. Luke’s. In the second half, Hyde battled back with a quick goal from junior attackman Tim Cassidy ’12 and intense defensive play from senior captain Adam Carreau ’11 to close out the third period 6-1. Unfortunately, the fourth quarter saw St. Luke’s put a few more in the back of the net to give them the victory 9-1. Blake Smaldone ’12 finished the day with 16 saves and junior attackman Kevin McMorrow ’12 picked up 9 groundballs and emerged as a team leader despite the loss. The next game up for the Wolf Pack will be against SENE rival Rocky Hill School on Tuesday.
