Marianapolis Prep: 49
On a rainy stormy night when the wind was howling, the men’s prep basketball team traveled to Connecticut to compete against Pomfret and Marianapolis Prep. Both games were hard fought and competitive spirits were enlightened in both matches. On Friday night, the Phoenix were faced with defeat in front of a roaring crowd. After trailing by with seven point deficit at the half, the Phoenix were unable to gain their composure and take the lead. Wes Freston’11 provided a sparkplug off the bench while junior Tyler Raff’12 contributed 12 points, 9 of which were three pointers in the final two minutes of the game. The Phoenix were defeated, 58-71.
After a tough loss Friday night, the Phoenix were fired up and ready to pull off a win on the road Saturday afternoon. They ventured to Marianapolis prep. After struggling to find their niche, the Phoenix set flight and never looked back. Seniors Harry Smith’11 and Ted Cercos’11 set the tempo and lead the way. Chris Moulton’12 was a rebounding force while also contributing a season-high 15 points. Smith’11 finished with a season-high 24 points and Cercos’11 finished with 10 points. With junior Jonah Alexander’12 sidelined with a concussion and a bench deep of only two members, the Phoenix played smartly and were victorious. With a record of 10-5, the Phoenix look to finish the season with a victory over New Hampton tomorrow night on the road.
