Men’s Varsity Basketball, Week in Review (1/31/11)
A wintery week for the Hyde basketball team saw another loss for the team, but the positive attitude has started to come out for more players. With this shift, the team looks towards the final week of the season with high hopes for a strong finish.
A day later than planned due to the crazy winter weather, the Hyde basketball team traveled up to Bethel, Maine to face off against Gould. With a shorter bench then usual but with high spirits, the team took the floor against a bigger opponent. Behind the sharp shooting of Wilson MacMillan ’14 and the composed play of Tobias Weymar ’12 the score was close going into the half. The deficit, however, proved to be insurmountable in the second half. Conor Ketchum ’12 played a fantastic game underneath. His aggressive play and refusal to quit helped his team in the second half. Counting only those quarters, the Phoenix only lost by six points. It was another slow start in the first half that really stunted the flight on this night. Looking forward, the team needs to get out to a faster start in its remaining games.
Athlete of the Week:
This week’s mention goes to Tobias Weymar. His calm and collected demeanor and turn-around attitude has really started to help his team on the floor. He has been working hard to be a part of the solution, rather than be the joker that he was at the beginning of the season.
With only three games remaining on the schedule, the goal for the remaining week is to finish out the season stronger then it began. With games against Valley and AR Gould, the Phoenix are hoping to revenge earlier losses. Tonight, a team from Seacoast Christian comes to Hyde. Focusing on clean play, the goal for the week is to take each game quarter by quarter and put on the floor what we have been practicing all year long.
Come out and support us, as all three games are home this week!
