Hyde JV Girls Basketball @ St. Andrew’s
Saturday, January 29
Hyde – 14
St. Andrew’s – 21
Girls JV Basketball travelled to St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, RI this Saturday for their second away game of the season. After losing a close home game against the Saints a week before, the team was excited for a rematch and potential win. From the first few moments of the game, Hyde played a tough defense, provoking several successful steals and turnovers. Defensive standouts included Shannon Ludeke ’12, Joy Yang ’13, Natalia Martinez ‘12 and Rianna Arellano ’12, who consistently fought hard for the ball, worked to get open for passes, and secured valuable rebounds. Offensively, Martinez ‘12, Laura Leonard ’11, and Camryn Bindra ’13 each scored two points in the first half. As Coach Osar began his motivational halftime speech, Hyde trailed the Saints by just three points.
Hyde defense continued to be strong in the second half as the team pressured their opponents to lose possession of the ball. At one point, the Lady Wolf Pack had come from behind and was leading by three points; this was due to a series of excellent shots by Arellano ’12, Martinez ’12, and Leonard ’11, who scored the first points of her basketball career during this game. Despite this momentum, Hyde was unable to match St. Andrew’s offensively, ultimately losing by seven points. Although the girls were disappointed by the loss, everyone was proud of the team’s hard work and tenacity.
Our next game is Wednesday, February 9 at Wheeler School.
