Sacopee Valley 44
The Hyde women dropped a Saturday evening game to Class C Sacopee Valley this weekend, bringing their MPA record to 2-5. The Phoenix trailed the entire game; the score at halftime was 15-19 and the deficit stayed at 6 points for almost the entire second half, until the Hawks dissected the Phoenix defense in the final minutes of play. Senior Sage Harris led the pack with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kathryn Comeaux was another big contributor with 6 points and 10 rebounds. This was a well-fought battle against a good team; freshman Elea Sevrain saw a lot of playing time in the guard position, putting forth a basket and four rebounds. The Lady Phoenix gear up for two challenging games early this week against Richmond, ranked first in Class D West, and Waynflete, ranked sixth in Class C West.
Athlete of the week: Elea Sevrain is our athlete of the week, displaying great dedication to her team and to her own improvement in the sport. She has become a more regular contributor in both practices and games and her upperclassmen counterparts have a lot to learn from her coachability and positive learning attitude. She scored her first points of the season in Saturday’s game.
Goals: One goal for this week is to learn to better execute on-the-fly changes in our offensive and defensive sets during game-time situations; the second is to increase our free-throw percentage in the three contests this week against Richmond, Waynflete and Isleboro.
