Bath: Hyde rebounds its way to overtime victory against NYA

Hyde                     50

NYA                       44

The Lady Phoenix banded together in the second half of play against North Yarmouth Academy on Wednesday night, coming back from a 9-point halftime deficit to force the game into overtime and ultimately overtaking the Panthers in the final minutes of play. The score at the end of regulation was 38-38. Late-game scoring was a major factor for Hyde; Sage Harris scored 23 of her whopping 33 points — a new career-high for the senior captain — in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. As a team, Hyde scored about a quarter of its points in the 4:00 minute overtime.

Hyde had some big-time boards against this Class C team. Three post players saw double-digit rebounds: Kathryn Comeaux (18), Laughlynn Bragg (11) and Lily Smith (12).

Another big player for Hyde in this game was Dexie Cercos with 9 points and 8 rebounds; Cercos seemed to find her rhythm offensively in this game, sinking a trey and a two-pointer in the fourth quarter to aid in the Phoenix comeback. This was a game of balanced contributions. Freshman Elea Sevrain saw her first career start, and senior Jenna Keith paced the Phoenix defense for most of the first half, chalking up 3 rebounds and a steal. Consistent steals down the stretch came from Harris (7) and Comeaux (5) who connected in this game as leaders on both ends of the floor.

The Lady Phoenix have one day of practice to prepare for back-to-back games this weekend against two teams to whom they dropped games earlier this season. Valley comes to Hyde on Friday afternoon, and the Phoenix travel to Sacopee Valley on Saturday. Hyde’s record stands at 2-5 in MPA competition.
