Boys 3rds Basketball
Portsmouth Abbey 20
The Boys 3rds BBall team traveled with Coach Saucier and his JV squad to Portsmouth Abbey to battle the Ravens on Wednesday. To say this game was not aesthetically pleasing would be an understatement, but the lack of grace and beauty gave way to a gritty determination and resiliency that paved the way for this 3rds team to stretch their unbeaten streak to 2!
The Wolfpack jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, and we seemed to be on our way to an easy victory. This couldn’t have been further from the truth as the Ravens of PA fought tooth and nail until the bitter end. The Pack found themselves trailing for the first time this season with about 7 Minutes to go in the game, but Apache “The Dragon” He ’12 took care of that with a steal and a bucket to put us back up 1. Danny “Deuces” Gill ’12 was a warrior on the court with 5 or 6 assists and a lot of hard fought defense and post play, especially late in the game when we really needed it. Johnny “Legs” Nelson ’14 maximized his time on the court with a great rebound and an even better defensive play that caused a jump ball sending it back in our direction. Thomas “T-Nix” Nixon ’14 also played some energetic and inspired defense late in the first half, showing his defensive prowess that will assuredly help this team in the coming months. Brian “B.O.D.” O’Dea ‘13 came up big as time expired by intercepting the inbounds pass at half court with 1 second left.
The man in the middle, Trevor Braxton “Down-Low” Bartow ’12, let his presence be known early and often, leading the team with 14pts and 18 rebounds. The Wolfpack showed that we can win, despite clearly not having our “A game”, as long as we fight hard on both ends of the court and we support each other, no matter if we are on the court or the bench. Make sure to congratulate these fine young gentlemen on heading into the break undefeated, 2-0……..LET’S GO!!
